Clinic Assistant (Full-Time)

Animal Fix Clinic is a nonprofit surgical clinic for cats and dogs. Our mission is to make high-quality veterinary care accessible to all. Since 1998, we’ve performed nearly 60,000 necessary and life-saving surgeries for community cats and pets across the Bay Area.

We run lean, stay focused on patients, and use donor support to keep surgery within reach for animals who might otherwise go without.

About the Role

The Clinic Assistant is responsible for cleaning of patient (cat and dog) cages/runs, preparation of surgical instrument packs, laundry, general restocking of clinic supplies, and general cleaning of the clinic facility. Attitude, commitment, and reliability are more important than previous experience for this job – we will train you to perform the tasks. This job description reflects the assignment of essential functions. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

Animal Fix Clinic just moved into our new, larger home.  This role will be instrumental to expanding our service offering and capacity.


  • Type: Full-time employee position

  • Schedule: 40 hours/week

  • Location: Onsite from our clinic in Pinole, CA . Our clinic is open Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Key Responsibilities

Clinic Cleanup

  • Daily cleaning of dog runs, dog cages, cat cages, and humane cat traps for next day and in between patients

  • Sweep and mop clinic area daily

  • Clean, fold, and stock kennel laundry throughout the clinic

Sterile Resource

  • Wash surgical laundry

  • Clean surgical instruments and prepare surgical packs as needed

  • Perform monthly autoclave maintenance

General Clinic Help

  • Take out trash and recycling

  • Clean bathroom(s)

  • Restock clinic supplies

  • Set up dog crates for the next day


Ideal Qualifications

  • No previous veterinary experience is required. To be successful in this role, you should possess the following knowledge, skills & qualities:

    • Be highly motivated

    • Be an enthusiastic self-starter

    • Have a professional attitude

    • Be proactive in taking on whatever tasks will be most helpful to the team, and be ready to prioritize accordingly

  • Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to work standing, sitting, or walking for 8 or more hours

    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help from others

    • Must be able to bend, kneel, and reach repeatedly
