Who We Are and Why We Do It

Every animal and every family deserves the best veterinary care.

Animal Fix Clinic is a 501(c)(3) non-profit spay/neuter clinic in the San Francisco Bay Area dedicated to making high-quality veterinary care accessible to all.

What began in 1998 as a group of forward-thinking women joining forces in Berkeley to care for community cats through trap-neuter-return (TNR) and pop-up surgical clinics, had evolved into a free-standing spay/neuter center in Richmond by 2012. Since 2017, under the leadership of Dr. Jean Goh (our Medical Director) and Robin Post (our Director of Clinic Operations), we’ve expanded our offerings to include other essential surgeries and treatment for pet cats and dogs.

We never turn anyone away for lack of funds: since 2014, Animal Fix Clinic has performed more than 50,000 life-saving and life-changing spay/neuter surgeries at low or no cost.

Today, we find ourselves at yet another moment of transformation and growth: we’re building our own permanent home in Pinole! This incredible project is an opportunity to expand and deepen the impact Animal Fix Clinic has on our community, and why we’re looking for new Directors to join our Board.

We Want You!

Animal Fix Clinic seeks volunteer board members with experience in:

  • Financial Operations

  • Fundraising and Development

  • Public Relations / Social Media

  • Human Resource Management

Experience working with animal welfare is preferred, but not required. We’re deeply invested in diversity and inclusion and would love to welcome new board members from communities which we serve.

We are a working Board, meaning each member contributes their time and skills. We do not require Board members to make a financial contribution to the organization, but Board members are expected to actively participate in fundraising and volunteer activities.

We meet at 7pm Pacific time on the 1st Wednesday of each month via videoconference, with two in-person meetings per year on the 1st Saturday of April and October, held at our clinic in the East Bay.  Most Board members spend an additional 2-6 hours on AFC tasks most months. Some members spend more time when working on seasonal projects such as budget preparation and participating in project-based committees.

Our Values

We know that to achieve our goals, fulfill our mission, and realize our vision, we need to include individuals with perspectives drawn from a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, skill sets, areas of expertise, and lived experiences to help us avoid decision-making that could diminish the impact of our work.

While our staff and clients are predominantly people of color, our Board (like those of many nonprofits) remains mostly white. We are actively seeking people of color, as well as gender-diverse individuals, to join our Board to better reflect the community we serve.

We are publicly recruiting for board positions to ensure that we move beyond our immediate networks and honor our ongoing commitment to creating a board that is diverse in its composition, inclusive in its culture, and equity-focused in its approach to how it views its mission, its work, and the communities it serves.

To Apply

Please send a short, introductory email that includes a description of the work or life experience that makes you well-suited for a position on our Board to president@animalfixclinic.org.
