We’re excited to share that Animal Fix Clinic is buying a building! We have been selected to purchase a former municipal shelter located in Pinole at a below-market rate, a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
In the ever-changing Bay Area, owning our own building will allow us to plan long-term, and customize our facilities to best the animals and families we serve.
It will take significant resources to purchase, renovate and open the building. You can make a tax-deductible donation to support our move here and we’ll be sharing more ways you can plug in to support as we go!
Below you can find some answers to Frequently Asked Questions, which we’ll be updating in the upcoming months. Please note that we are still in the process of going through a formal inspection process of the building, and information and plans are subject to change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you moving? We rent our current building in Richmond. Owning our own building will allow us more security in an uncertain rental market, and save tens of thousands of dollars in rent each year.
Will Animal Fix Clinic be a shelter now? Will you offer adoptions? No. Animal Fix Clinic will not be a shelter or adoption center, and we will not house animals overnight. We are not taking over animal control functions that the County previously performed at the Pinole location.
When will you receive the new building? We have officially bought the building as of August 2022.
How does the move to the Pinole building help animals and people in the community? The size and shape of our current building (a converted auto repair shop) limits our potential for growth. The Pinole building is much larger, more flexible, and will allow us to serve even more animals and people in our community. We can also help more animals if we can make changes to a building that we own, instead of renting a building we can't invest in. With Bay Area real estate so expensive, Animal Fix Clinic would not be able to purchase a similar building on the open market, so we are very fortunate to receive this opportunity in Pinole. Without it, we would have had to move to a much more remote location to find enough space, which was not an outcome anyone wanted. So this move will keep our services as local as possible, and also give us space to serve more animals in the future.
What will your services be at the new location? We are converting the shelter to a surgical clinic. We will continue offering spay/neuter surgeries, and other life-enhancing and life-saving surgeries at the new location.
How can I support the purchase and renovation of the building? Animal Fix Clinic will need significant resources to purchase, renovate, and open the building. You can make a tax-deductible donation to support our move at animalfixclinic.org/newclinic, and we’ll be sharing more ways you can plug in to support as we go!
Where will the new location be? The new location will be 910 San Pablo Ave, Pinole, CA, 94564.
Where will my upcoming appointment be? All currently scheduled appointments will take place at our Richmond location. It will take us a while for our new facility to be ready for surgeries, and we will make an announcement when we begin seeing clients in Pinole.
Will you own or lease the new location? We will own our new location.
When will you be moving to the new location? We anticipate moving to the new location in 2023.
What kind of renovations will you be making to the building? Some necessary renovations include creating a brand-new surgical suite, installing post-surgery recovery areas for cats and dogs, and updating office and administration areas.
Will you keep your current location in Richmond? No. Once we fully move to our Pinole location, that will be the only location where we provide services.
